All, open the folder it makes and install from there.

REQUIREMENTS

   Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit (x64)
Music software that loads VST®3 instruments, or none: the
standalone app plays on its own
About 11 GB free for the sound library, on any drive
An internet connection to download the library; after that,
      hetki plays offline

hetki is made to fit a computer with 8 GB of memory.

FORMATS ON WINDOWS

hetki comes as a VST3 plugin and a standalone app. The Audio Unit
is a Mac format, and there is no AAX version.

INSTALLING

   1. Quit your music software.
   2. Double-click "Hetki-1.0.2-Windows.exe".
   3. If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", choose More info,
then Run anyway. The installer is signed; Windows can still
show this for a file it has not seen often yet.
   4. Choose Yes when Windows asks to let it make changes. It installs
into Program Files, which needs administrator rights.
   5. On a first install the installer asks for a folder. That is
where the app and the uninstaller go; the folder it offers is
fine. Next it lists two parts: "Hetki VST3 plugin", always
installed, and "Hetki Standalone app", which you can untick.
   6. Press Next through the pages, then Install, then Finish.

If you installed the app, the last page offers
"Launch Hetki (locate your sample library on first run)".
That opens the app. The wording is older than hetki's own
download: on a first run there is nothing to locate, and the app
asks for your licence, then offers the download.

The first time hetki opens, it is silent and asks for a licence.
That is expected. Paste your licence and press "unlock", or drop
the .hetki file onto the window. Then download the sound library
(below). Sound arrives once the library is in.

If your music software does not list hetki, rescan its plugins. In
Ableton Live, turn on "Use VST3 Plug-in System Folders" in
   Settings, Plug-Ins, and press Rescan.

WHERE IT GOES

   C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Hetki.vst3
   C:\Program Files\Idealism\Hetki\Hetki.exe

The VST3 goes to the standard shared VST3 folder, and that cannot
be changed. The app goes to the second place unless you chose
another folder for it. The Start menu gets a "Hetki" folder with
"Uninstall Hetki" in it, and "Hetki" if you installed the app.

Your settings and your own moments are kept in your user folder:

      settings %APPDATA%\Idealism\Hetki.settings
      moments %APPDATA%\Idealism\Hetki\Presets\

Type %APPDATA%\Idealism into the address bar of File Explorer to
open the folder that holds them.

THE SOUND LIBRARY

The sounds come separately, downloaded from inside hetki once a
licence is in. The website calls the library about 10 GB. hetki
   and File Explorer count a gigabyte as 1,024 x 1,024 x 1,024 bytes
where the website counts a thousand million, so for the same
library hetki's button says "about 9 gb" and its progress line
   ends "of 9.4 GB".

   1. The band under the mic faders, at the lower left of hetki's
face, says "the sound library isn't here yet". Press
"download the library (about 9 gb)".
   2. Choose a folder. hetki makes a folder called "Hetki Samples"
inside it. Any drive with about 11 GB free will do.
   3. hetki checks every file as it arrives and loads the library by
itself when the last one is in.

Closing hetki's window in your music software does not stop the
download. Pressing "stop", closing the project, quitting your
music software or closing the hetki app does, and what has
   arrived is kept.

To go on after a stop, or after "connection lost. press download",
press download and choose the same place as before: the folder
that holds "Hetki Samples", not "Hetki Samples" itself. The picker
starts at your user folder each time.

Moved the library, or copied it from another computer? Press
"locate library…" on the band (or settings, general, sample
library, "locate…") and choose the "Hetki Samples" folder. If it is
on an external drive, connect the drive before hetki opens: hetki
looks for the library only when it loads.

YOUR LICENCE

The licence comes by email from contact@idealism.co, as text and
as a .hetki file. The payment receipt is a separate email and does
   not hold it.

hetki checks the licence on the computer itself and never checks
in with a server to play. A full licence never expires and works
on all of your own computers. Each user account on a computer
enters it once. It is kept here:

      %APPDATA%\Idealism\Hetki\licence.hetki

Lost it? Search your mail for "Your hetki", or open the page you
bought it on if you bookmarked it. The form on
hetki.idealism.co/support sends a bought or trial licence again,
to the address it was issued to. If none of that works, write to
me at contact@idealism.co from the address you used.

A trial plays everything for seven days, counted from when its
licence goes into hetki. A trial also ends two weeks after the
date on its licence, so put it in within a week of getting it.
In the trial's last two days, hetki reminds you each time you
open its window. When the trial ends, hetki goes quiet and shows
"the week is over". Paste a bought licence there and it plays
again, with the library and your moments as they were.

Bought hetki with more than two days of a trial left? hetki shows
no licence window until the reminder, so paste it then. Or rename
the bought .hetki file to licence.hetki, put it in the folder
above in place of the trial's, and reopen your project (or the
   app).

UPDATING

Quit your music software and run the new installer over the old
one. There is nothing to uninstall first, and Windows needs no
restart. Your licence, the library, your settings and your own
moments stay as they are, and projects saved with an earlier
version open with the new one.

If a program still has hetki open, the installer names it and
offers to close it. Some will not close this way (Ableton Live 12
does not): save your work, quit the program yourself, then press
Try again. The same fix works for
"DeleteFile failed; code 5. Access is denied."

hetki does not look for updates by itself. When there is a new
version, an email goes out to licence holders, and
hetki.idealism.co/download always has the latest. To stop those
emails, reply to one and say so.

UNINSTALLING

In the Start menu, open the "Hetki" folder and choose
"Uninstall Hetki". Or find "Hetki version 1.0.2" in Settings,
   Apps, and choose Uninstall.

That removes the plugin and the app. Your licence, settings,
moments and the sound library stay, so installing again picks up
where you left off. To remove them too, delete the "Hetki Samples"
folder and the licence, settings and moments paths above.

HELP

hetki.idealism.co/support answers the common questions, and
hetki.idealism.co/guide goes from the first click to the first
   note.

Or write to me at contact@idealism.co. Tell me which Windows
version, which music software (or the standalone app) and which
version of hetki (the about page in settings shows it). For a
licence or an order, add the order number.
